| Gamerail Service Goes Down in Flames | |
In a move that should shock no one with any business sense, Gamerail closed its doors today. After months of endless no pay betas and supposed cracks allowing free service, Gamerail released the following statement:
It is with deep regret to announce that the GameRail network has been discontinued at this time. Thank you to the gamers who have participated in the GameRail trial and support of its development as we worked to solve the issues of latency and network quality and their impact on gaming. We believe that latency and network quality will continue to affect the gaming experience and while we are still believers in the GameRail concept, the market does not appear to be ready to support a standalone network for gaming at this time.
The market is in fact ready, but the GameRail network did not position itself well to succeed. After deciding to put its phase one gateway locations in the major network hubs of Chicago, Washington DC, LA, Seattle and Atlanta and then never rolling out the phase 2 locations where they really needed to be...it was doomed to run out of money. I can't tell you the number of times I heard people tell me "Yea, I tried Gamerail. It doesn't do a thing for me". In the last couple of months there were some quakers that tried it and were getting some minimal benefit out of it, but they were few and far between and as long as Gamerail seemed content to let them login in for free....
RIP GameRail. |

I was ready for Gamerail, but it increased my ping, and made it so I couldn't even talk on vent at the same time. It only decreased my ping to one server, which droped it 5ms (which is alright) but that was only to 1 server that NOBODY played on. If it would of worked I would of easily spent 5-9 extra bucks for it. |

Yeah. I wasn't too surprised when I got this e-mail. But yeah, Gamerail worked......on servers with 1000+ ping. Dropped your ping down to about 700. I tried it for 1 hour, and it didn't help on any servers unless they had a ping that was unplayable. |
