Quake 4 News - TEH PATCH!
Quake 4 NewsFinally, the silence is broken. Id (not raven, more on this later) released a beta version of the first true patch for Quake 4. The patch fixes a number of problems BUT, and this is a big one, it breaks Q4Max and X-Battle functionality. Q4Max 0.71 does not, and WILL NOT, work with the 1.1 patch. As I understand it this is fairly significant code change that will require a re-release of the SDK for modders. The good news is that the SDK should be forthcoming in the next 24-48 hours and we should expect 0.72 from Q4Max fairly quickly. (Don't ask them by the way. The only thing you will get is "when its done". =D )

From Id: Due to the vast number of updates and new functionality in the 1.1 Point Release, mods will have to be updated to the 1.1 code by each respective mod author in order to run correctly on the 1.1 version of Quake 4. Information regarding mods and news related to the Quake 4 SDK can be found at http://www.iddevnet.com/quake4/Quake4SDK. Activision does not provide any technical support for mods.

A full list of the fixes and added features can be found here. It looks like they continued in the direction they were going with 1.05 Beta 2 adding improved support for the newer Dual Core cpus and HT technology. They are claiming a 87% percent performance increase for some dual core, Hyper Threaded cpus. What that means in real world terms remains to be seen.

Notable new feature:
Added: Voice Chat for Multiplayer

Notably Missing:
Auto download does NOT appear in the list that I have seen. I have heard in many conversations that this is fixed, but it is curiously absent from the ReadMe. This may be due to the beta status of this release.

Revision: Auto DL is fixed. Detail can be found here.

More info will be forthcoming as its available. Click here for full list of changes.
