WaP didn't lose a match all tournament. Last pick in the draft, and afterwards probably regarded(read back through predictions) as the #1 team. They did not disappoint.
Despite a few people's constant complaining, I think overall most people had a good time. I would consider it a very successful tourney.

Quake 4 Gets the Bone from Quakecon
QuakeconQuake 4 CTF will sadly NOT be a part of the QuakeCon team games. The team games for this year will be a ETQW PC version as well as a console version(fairly stupid in my opinion, but id wants to show the console monkeys some love) and a Quake Live CTF tournament with $12,500 in prize money. That should pull some good teams out of the woodwork and while I would personally prefer Q4CTF, there is no doubt that there will be some seriously intense competition in QL CTF. Hopefully we will be able to have some coverage of the event. We'll see what happens.

Regardless, we will continue doing what we do, and we should have some details of the next True Carnage ctf league soon. We are looking forward to the biggest and best league yet so stay tuned!

Here is this current map layout for the rest of the tourney. I've made a SLIGHT change... since I believe our math was wrong concerning the LB.

Server and Updates
True Carnage Q4CTFAfter running in circles and trying almost every server provider there is in the known universe, we have finally decided that gameservers is the one we are going to use going forward. I am not going to run through and list all the flaws of the other providers, but I will say this: none of the other companies we tried were as consistent, stable or easy to work with. In fact, I would go so far as to say that it wasn't even close. When you add in the fact that they are cheaper (by far) than any of the so called "premium server hosts" it's a slam dunk decision.

With all of that said, I know there will a couple of people unhappy with the decision (sorry Des). Unfortunately, there is literally no way we can make everyone universally happy but we are trying to make the best decision for the largest number of people -- the greater good etc.

As usual, all of the servers are in Chicago. This is also for the same reason -- more people seem to be happier with Chicago than any other location.

Also, to give you all an idea of the direction we are headed in as a result of this decision, future leagues will tentatively be formatted as follows:

  1. The teams will be invite only. -- We are going to try and limit participation to those teams that have enough organization and stability to be able to finish the seasons without forfeits. This is not to say new teams are not going to make it in -- far from it -- but they will be vetted.

  2. Match dates and times will be assigned. -- We did this with the draft league as you all probably know. There were some hick-ups (mostly with Thursday matches) but for the most part it's gone exceedingly well. The league match day in the future will be Sunday night. The vast majority of the matches from previous leagues were all played on Sunday night. With that being the case, we feel pretty comfortable. The times are still up in the air but 8:00pm and 10:00pm sound about right. Once the time is set, under no circumstances will rescheduling be considered.

  3. Servers will be assigned. At the beginning of the league you will receive a schedule that will include server assignment. There will be 2 dedicated match servers and use of the assigned server will be required.

  4. Referees will be assigned. With scheduled matches, servers etc. we will be able to pre-assign referees well in advance of matches at the beginning of the season.

  5. Q4TV will be available. With assigned servers we will be able to pick matches of the week ahead of time. The Q4TV will be permanently set up to one of the match servers. Matches on that server will be broadcast.

  6. League Statistics. Again - since we are controlling the server we have access to the statistics. This will allow for much more detailed coverage and analysis.

  7. Shoutcasting -- With scheduled matches and Q4TV locked in ahead of time, shoutcasting will be set up for a number of matches.

  8. Demos and multimedia. We should be able to record mvd serverside demos. Failing that the referees will record demos as well. The serverside demo function needs to be tested still, so we shall see how that works. With consistent access to demos, we can do highlights, play by play analysis. etc

We are well aware of the fact that this will be ambitious. I have never heard of a league even trying to do this -- much less actually doing it and succeeding. Obviously, we are going to be looking for some help from the community. We will need referees, shoutcasters with experience, video editors etc etc. If you think you can help let us know!
Roster updates.
We have decided to replace players with ones from teams who have lost. Players that have shown up and maybe not been able to play because of others not showing...etc. We are doing this because there have been a couple people needing replaced, and we are unable to contact the players left in the back up pool. With that said, the replacements are:

Exeter is replacing DarfyJones
Losthope is replacing truth
